Delimitation Commission seeks latest information on administrative units of J&K

The Delimitation Commission has sought information on latest status of Tehsils, Patwar and administrative units of the Union Territory.

J&K Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Hirdesh Kumar said that they are compiling the information sought by the Delimitation Commission.  “We have collected details from districts of J&K regarding the latest status of Tehsils, Patwar, and administrative units and it will be sent to the commission within 15 days.”

   

He said the data which will be shared include statistics, maps and 2011 census figures.

Headed by former SC Justice Ranjana Prakash Desai, the tenure of the commission will end in March 2021.

The National Conference boycotted the commission and rejected the nomination of its three leaders and MPs namely Dr Farooq Abdullah, Hasnain Masoodi and Muhammad Akbar Lone to the J&K delimitation panel.

Union Minister Dr Jatinder Singh, and Jugal Kishore Sharma, both from ruling BJP continue to be the associate members of the commission.

Pertinently, the Congress Party had set up a 10-member committee with former minister Peerzada Mohammad Sayeed as its chairman, to deal with the issue of delimitation in J&K.  “We have yet to hold a meeting on this issue, but we have discussed it over phone. We will hold a video-conference with all the 10 members and discuss the issues regarding the assembly constituencies, population, etc.” Sayeed said.
