To decongest the jails across J&K, the Home Department has authorized Director General Prisons J&K to grant special parole for another eight weeks to the prisoners.
The authorization has been granted in view of a spike in covid-19 cases in Jammu and Kashmir, especially after 96 inmates in district Jail Anantnag tested positive for coronavirus.
In this regard an order issued reads: “In respect of categories of convict prisoners mentioned in the order ibid, extendable for further eight weeks, if the COVID-19 pandemic situation in the UT of J&K does not improve or further worsens, subject to the conditions laid-down in the said order (sic).”
