Dr Ali Muhammad Matoo passes away

Dr Ali Muhammad Matoo, the brother-in-law of National Conference president Dr Farooq Abdullah, passed away at his Gupkar residence here on Sunday evening after prolonged illness.

Family sources said Matoo’s Nimaz-e-Jinaza will be held on Monday morning and he will laid to rest at Ziarat Bahauddin Ganj Baksh graveyard. In view of prevailing situation in Kashmir, the bereaved family said there won’t be large condolence meeting at their home.

Meanwhile, NC spokesperson in a statement condoled the demise. “Dr Ali Muhammad Matoo was the son of renowned businessman of his times Khwaja Muhammad Abdullah Matoo of Zainakadal who was a close associate of Sher-e-Kashmir Sheikh Muhammad Abdullah,” he said.

Matoo has served as superintendent at SMHS Hospital and SKIMS. “A man of knowledge, he was known for his humble disposition and cheerful nature. A dignified and upright person, Matoo sahib embodied nobility, dignity and grace. The party rank and file is in unison with the grief stricken family in particular, with the wife of deceased Prof. Suriya Matoo Abdullah and his daughter Dr. Nyla Ali Khan.” The party expressed condolences to the party president and Member of Parliament from Srinagar Dr Farooq Abdullah and vice-president Omar Abdullah.
