Dr Ali Muhammad Matoo, the brother-in-law of National Conference president Dr Farooq Abdullah, passed away at his Gupkar residence here on Sunday evening after prolonged illness.
Family sources said Matoo’s Nimaz-e-Jinaza will be held onMonday morning and he will laid to rest at Ziarat Bahauddin Ganj Bakshgraveyard. In view of prevailing situation in Kashmir, the bereaved family saidthere won’t be large condolence meeting at their home.
Meanwhile, NC spokesperson in a statement condoled thedemise. “Dr Ali Muhammad Matoo was the son of renowned businessman of histimes Khwaja Muhammad Abdullah Matoo of Zainakadal who was a close associate ofSher-e-Kashmir Sheikh Muhammad Abdullah,” he said.
Matoo has served as superintendent at SMHS Hospital andSKIMS. “A man of knowledge, he was known for his humble disposition andcheerful nature. A dignified and upright person, Matoo sahib embodied nobility,dignity and grace. The party rank and file is in unison with the grief strickenfamily in particular, with the wife of deceased Prof. Suriya Matoo Abdullah andhis daughter Dr. Nyla Ali Khan.”Theparty expressed condolences to the party president and Member of Parliamentfrom Srinagar Dr Farooq Abdullah and vice-president Omar Abdullah.
