Earthquake jolts Chenab Valley

An earthquake of moderate intensity on Monday evening shook Ramban, Doda and Kishtwar Districts of Chenab Valley, triggering panic among the residents.

The quake, measuring 5.1 on the Richter Scale, struck Ramban, Kishtwar, Bhadarwah and Doda belts of Chenab Valley at 07:32 pm. The epicentre of the earthquake was 16 km north of Doda, an official said.

   

According to reports, panic-stricken people rushed out of their homes in District Doda and parts of Kishtwar, when the quake struck. Reports said cracks have developed in GMC Doda main building.

DC Doda, Dr Sagar Dattaray Doifode, said, “Damages if any will be assessed.”
