Militants Wednesday evening shot and injured the son of a famous restaurant owner in Srinagar, police said. Police said that Aakash Mehra son of Ramesh Kumar Mehra was injured when militants fired at him near the Krishna Dhaba in Sonwar area here. Akash is said to be the son of the owner of Krishna Dhaba.
Preliminary investigation, police said, revealed that militants had fired upon an individual at Krishna Dhaba area of Dalgate Srinagar. He has been identified as Aakash Mehra son of Ramesh Kumar Mehra resident of Janipora Jammu at present Dalgate Srinagar. He has received gunshot injuries in this incident and was evacuated to nearby hospital for treatment of his injuries.
Hospital officials said the youth has received a bullet in his chest and is being operated upon.
The incident created panic in the area and traffic was diverted. Search operation was on when this report was being filed.
NC leader Omar Abdullah called the attack “unacceptable”. He said: “Very sorry to hear about the attack on the Krishna Dhaba in Srinagar, these attacks are unacceptable. I hope the injured person who is himself associated with the dhaba and is undergoing treatment in a city hospital makes a complete and speedy recovery.”
Mehbooba Mufti said: “Deeply saddened by the attack on Krishna Dhaba at Sonwar in Srinagar. Extend my sympathies to the injured & his family. Violence is never the answer.”
BJP General Secretary Ashok Koul condemned the attack.
A BJP statement quoted Koul as saying that these things would not be tolerated anymore.
“These attacks are aimed to disturb peace in the region,” he said in the statement.
Apni Party Provincial President Mohammed Ashraf Mir also condemned the attack.
“The nefarious elements inimical to peace have always tried to create a sense of fear in the valley. I urge the administration to bring these perpetrators to book, so that no such unfortunate incidents are repeated,” Mir remarked.
