Firing, searches in Budgam village

A gunfight between security forces and militants is underway in Kawoosa area of Budgam district. The gunfight broke out on Monday late afternoon after Special Operation Group of Jammu and Kashmir Police, Rashtriya Rifles and Central Reserve Police Force cordoned the village after inputs about the presence of militants.

“We have inputs of presence of two to three militants in village orchards,” police said.

   

Police said that as the cordon was being laid, hiding militants fired upon the security forces. “The fire was retaliated,” police said, adding that searches are underway.

After initial contact, police sources said that there has been no fresh firing.

They said that more adjoining areas have been cordoned off. “Due to darkness the operation will likely be suspended for night and will be resumed on Tuesday morning,” they said adding that heavy troops have been deployed at banks of Nallah Sukhnag, which is adjacent to the village orchards.

Meanwhile reports said groups of youth pelted stones on security forces at the encounter spot leading to minor clashes, They said that nobody was injured in clashes.
