‘Fruit laden trucks needlessly being stopped on highway’

Kashmir Valley Fruits Growers’ and Dealers’ Associations (KVFG) alleged that fruit laden trucks are unnecessarily being stopped at various spots on the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway.

The association has stated it in a missive to Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha seeking his intervention in this regard, a statement issued by it said.

The statement alleged that the fruit laden trucks are “unnecessarily” and “intentionally” stopped at various spots on the highway for days together.

The trucks whose drivers “pay huge amounts” to the traffic personnel are allowed to move ahead while the rest of the trucks are detained in queues, the statement said.

The fruit laden trucks which are allowed to move ahead after remaining detained for days together arrive at outside mandis together. “When the apple/pear reaches in abundance in the mandi it doesn’t fetch even the actual cost.”

The statement said that the dealers and growers have been facing heavy losses since 2014 floods.

Meanwhile, the association has appealed to the Lt Governor and J&K administration to look into this issue.
