More than half of the population had a history of high BP and were on drug treatment. Around 55 percent of these had un-controlled BP (140/90 mmHg) with half of them more than 160/100 mmHg predisposing them to strokes, heart attacks, and kidney failure. A very alarming finding was that 40 percent of those with uncontrolled BP had additional diabetes, making them sitting ducks for complications.

According to the doctors of GHHP psycho-social issues also came to the fore as a large number of the patients examined exhibited depression, feelings of isolation, and some behavioral disorders. Many of them were seen carrying prescriptions of antidepressants and sleeping pills. In the 2-day camp, every patient was seen and investigated and prescribed cost-effective medications and counseled for a healthy lifestyle. According to the GHHP team, it will be followed up periodically by the team in the months to come.
