Girls bag top positions in class 12 exams

The J&K Board of School Education (JKBOSE) on Monday declared the result of class 12th examination with 80 percent students passing the test.

The pass percentage of boys has been recorded as 78.46 percent while as the overall pass percentage of girl students is 82.72 percent.

   

As per the BOSE figures, around 58397 students – boys 30960 and girls 27437 from Arts, Science and Commerce streams – had appeared in exams out of which 46987 students – boys 24291 and girls 22696 – have been declared as qualified in the exams.

The examination of class 12th students was held in November-December last year.

As per the JKBOSE figures, 23207 students have qualified the exam with distinction while 17666 students have been awarded first division marks, 5670 students have qualified the examination with second division.

Also, 443 students have qualified the exams in third division and 11122 students have to reappear in the examination of various subjects, 288 have failed to qualify any of the subjects in their stream. JKBOSE has shown ‘disputed eligibility’ against the results of 68 students while as 54 students have been marked as absent. JKBOSE has also shown ‘unfair means’ against result of five students while 21 students have been disqualified, exam of five students was cancelled.

As per the JKBOSE figures, the girls have bagged the top positions in all the streams while as government school students figure in the merit list of the position holders.

In Science stream, as many as 19 students shared the top three slots out of whom only four are boys.

In Commerce stream, five girls shared the first three positions while as the top slots in Home Science and Arts streams have been bagged by three girls in each stream, the JKBOSE data revealed.

As many as 141 girls figure among the top 178 position holders across streams.

ARTS STREAM:

In Arts stream, the overall pass percentage of girls has been recorded as 78.67 percent while as the pass percentage of boys has been recorded as 73.25 percent. Around 16364 boys appeared in the exams out of which 11987 have qualified it. Out of 16824 girls who appeared in exams, 13249 have been declared as qualified.

COMMERCE STREAM:

The pass percentage of boys in Commerce stream has been recorded as 81.51 percent as out of 2585 boys who appeared in the exams, 2107 have qualified it. Out of 793 girls, 727 have been declared as qualified by JKBOSE with overall pass percentage of 91.68 percent.

SCIENCE STREAM:

The overall pass percentage of boys in Science stream is 84.90 percent as 10197 students out of 12011 students who appeared in exams have qualified it. The girls have qualified the exams with over all pass percentage of 88.97 percent. Out of 9802 students who appeared in the exams, 8721 have qualified it.

As per the BOSE figures, the students from government schools have performed well in the class 12th examination as the pass percentage of almost all the schools ranges from 50 to 90 percent. Some of the government schools have even produced around 100 percent result. However, the pass percentage of a few government schools has remained below 50 percent.

Also, there has been a significant improvement in the pass percentage of the class 12th students from 2003 to 2020. The pass percentage of class 12th students in 2003 was recorded 48.89 percent as 14446 out of 29546 students were declared as qualified.

In 2020 annual exam the number of students who enrolled for the exams was 58397 out of which 46987 have qualified it with overall pas percentage of 80.46 percent. The JK Board figures state that around four specially-abled student – three girls and one boy – also appeared in the exams and qualified it.
