Governor directs SIT to fast-track investigation

Governor Satya Pal Malik has expressed shock and pain over the alleged rape of a 3-year old girl from Bandipora district, an official spokesman said. 

He said the Governor and his Advisor Vijay Kumar have directed the J&K Police’s Special Investigation Team to complete the investigation into the case on fast track basis so that the culprit is brought to justice.

The Governor directed the Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Baseer Khan and IG Police SP Pani to personally monitor the investigation.

Separate inquiry has also been ordered to check veracity of the age of accused and ascertain the veracity of age certificate issued, the spokesman added.

The Governor Malik requested general public to maintain peace and mutual brotherhood. He assured that administration is taking each and every step for maintaining public order and anybody having any grievance or any apprehension should contact the Police Control Room or Divisional Commissioner Kashmir’s office.

The spokesman said that earlier in the day Governor Malik spoke to IGP Kashmir and took detailed review of the ongoing investigations into the case.

He directed the IGP to work swiftly in the case and ensure that the culprit gets exemplary punishment for the shameful act.

The spokesperson stated that Governor also spoke to religious leaders of different communities and asked them to “deplore this gruesome incident unanimously and make appeal to the people to remain calm and not let anti-social elements disturb peace and harmony in the society.”

The Governor urged the parents, teachers and prominent citizens to take significant steps in imbibing children with morally sound and value-based education so as to build a strong foundation for “our society based on compassion and kindness”, the statement said.

Meanwhile, the Governor has appealed people not to pay any heed to rumors, adding rumor mongers will be dealt strictly as per law.
