Gun license scam: CBI arrests 2 top officers

Two former District Magistrates of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district, including an IAS officer, were arrested on Sunday for their alleged involvement in the gun license scam, the CBI said.

During investigations conducted by the Central Bureau ofInvestigation, “the alleged role of ItritHussainRafiqui (a KashmirAdministrative Service officer) and Rajiv Ranjan, IAS, both posted thenDistrict Magistrates Kupwara, J&K has surfaced during their tenure asDistrict Magistrates, Kupwara, J&K from the year 2013 to 2015 and from 2015to 2016 respectively,” a CBI statement said.

   

The CBI had registered a case on May 17,2018 following anFIR registered at Police Station Vigilance Organisation Kashmir (VOK), on theallegations that during the period 2012 to 2016, then DistrictMagistrates/Deputy Commissioners of various districts of J&K were illegallyissuing “bulk arms licenses in lieu of a monetary consideration,” the statementadded.
