Gunmen attack SRTC bus in Shopian

Unidentified gunmen attacked a State Road Transport Corporation bus, reportedly on poll duty, in south Kashmir’s Shopian district Thursday night.

A police official said that the gunmen fired on the bus –bearing number JK02 K 7311 – in Turkwangam village, 12 kms from Shopian town.

   

He said the bullets hit the bus from the rear side.”However, the driver of the bus escaped unhurt,” the official added.

He said the bus was on election duty and was on its way fromSrinagar to Balpora army camp in Shopian. The official said that whiletravelling towards its destination, the driver had lost his way and taken awrong route.

The official said the bus was not carrying any soldier orpoll material at the time of the attack.
