Gunmen kill NC leader’s PSO in Kokernag

Gunmen on Sunday evening shot dead a Personal Security Officer (PSO) of National Conference leader Syed Tauqeer Shah in this south Kashmir district.

The incident occurred when Shahwas holding a meeting of NC workers at Hillad village, some 10 kms, away frommain Kokernag town.

   

A police official said as themeeting was on in the house of NC worker, Muhammad Jabbar, the gunmen brokeinside and fired indiscriminately at the policemen guarding Shah in the lawn.

“In the incident a selectiongrade constable Reyaz Ahmad Khan alias Shaka of NewaPulwama suffered criticalbullet injuries. He was rushed to sub-district hospital Kokernag. The doctorsthere referred him to district hospital Anantnag but he succumbed to hisinjuries on way to the hospital,” he said.

Medical Superintendent (MS)district hospital Anantnag, DrMajeedMehrab said that Khan had sustained bulletinjuries in chest and was declared bought dead on arrival.

Tauqeer, aformer principal and district session judge, who had voluntarily retired fromthe services and joined NC early this year had conveyed party meeting at twoother villages prior to the one at Hillad during the day. He is the party incharge of Breng-Kokernag assembly constituency.

Wreath laying ceremony held 

Meanwhile, apolice spokesman in a statement  said,”to pay homage and respect to Riyaz Ahmad a wreath laying ceremony was held forthe deceased at District Police Lines Anantnag. Senior police officersincluding DIG SKR, SSP Anantnag and other police officers laid floral wreathson the mortal remains and paid rich tributes to the deceased for the supremesacrifice made in the line of duty.” Hesaid that Riyaz Ahmad’s family is survived by parents, wife, 23 year-old sonArifRiyaz, 19 year-old son Sharik Khan and 17 year daughter BazilaRiyaz.
