Gunmen kill PDP leader’s PSO, decamp with his weapon

Gunmen on Friday shot dead a Personal Security Officer (PSO) of Peoples Democratic Party leader Sajad Mufti and decamped with his service rifle in south Kashmir’s Bijbehara town.

Sajad, who is the paternal cousin of former chief minister MehboobaMufti,  was offering Friday prayers atBaba Naseeb u Din Ghazi (Reh) shrine in Baba Mohala locality of the old townwhen militants shot at his PSO,  standingguard outside.

   

“The pistol borne militants fired at the cop identified asFarooq Ahmad of Dirpora, Khiram village of Bijbehara multiple times,” said apolice official.

He said the militants also ran away with his AK 47 servicerifle.

The injured policeman was immediately rushed to sub-districthospital Bijbehara where doctors declared him dead on arrival.

“The slain cop had three bullets in the chest,” a doctorsaid.

Soon, after the attack, the security forces cordoned off theentire area and launched searches to nab the assailants.

The ancestral home of Mufti’s is also located in thevicinity. This is the second such attack this week in Anantnag district. OnSunday the militants had shot dead a PSO of National Conference leader andformer judge Syed Tauqeer Shah at Hillad, Kokernag during a workers meet.
