Heavy rush on Srinagar-Jammu highway

With the improvement in weather, there was heavy rush of traffic on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway. However, the vehicles plied smoothly seeing no interruptions from Nashri to Jawahar tunnel.

The passenger vehicles and LMVs crossed Jawahar tunnel before the heavy vehicles were allowed to move, sources said, adding that the load carriers with essential commodities moved from Jammu to Srinagar.

“After improvement in weather conditions on Thursday, the highway witnessed heavy rush of traffic,” they said.

Sources said that adequate number of traffic personnel was deployed on the highway for monitoring and regulating the traffic.

Meanwhile traffic police headquarters Srinagar issued an advisory for Friday stating that no vehicular movement will be allowed on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway from either side in view of weekly maintenance/repairing of the road. “However, the NHAI will ensure prompt/safe passage to election-bound vehicles from Ramban to Khari, Ramsu and vice-versa,” it said.

It may be mentioned that in the first phase of DDC elections, three constituencies in Ramsu and Banihal Sub Divisions of Ramban shall vote on Saturday.
