The Srinagar-Jammu National Highway is open for traffic even though it had been raining for several hours along the route, said IGP traffic Alok Kumar
Kumar said that on Friday besides some stranded vehicles, traffic plied from Jammu to Srinagar.
“As it is raining, nothing can be said about Saturday’s traffic movement,” he said and advised highway travelers to contact traffic control units before leaving for their destinations.
Kashmir-bound vehicles, including trucks carrying essentials and LPG and oil tankers besides passengers, were allowed to move since this morning. No vehicle will be allowed from opposite direction.
The 270-km highway, the only all-weather road linking Kashmir with the rest of the country, was closed for vehicular traffic Tuesday morning following multiple landslides in Digdole area ofRamban district.
Intermittent rains, meanwhile, lashed Kashmir during the day and the meteorological department predicted more rain on Saturday.
Traffic officials said that Mughal Road and Srinagar-Leh highway was also open for one-way traffic.
“We expect improvement in weather from May 19,” Met director Sonam Lotus said.
