Highway opens; traffic restored

The Jammu-Srinagar National Highway was reopened Saturday morning for the traffic after remaining blocked for two consecutive days due to landslides at Mehar Ramban. The road had got blocked on Thursday afternoon due to massive landslides at Mehar and shooting stones at Cafeteria morh near Ramban town.

Official sources said that the vehicles carrying essential commodities, which had been stopped at Chanderkote, Chenani, Udhampur and Dhar Road were allowed to move towards Valley. “The load carriers at Ramban and Qaziqund were also allowed to move towards Jammu.”

   

The landslides at both the places were cleared and the stranded vehicles allowed to move towards their respective destinations on Saturday, said DSP traffic National Highway Ramban Ajay Anand.

Manager of a contractor company informed that a single lane of the road was “prepared” at Mehar and “vehicles are crossing landslide prone areas”.
