Srinagar-Jammu highway reopens after 12 hours

After remaining closed for over 12 hours, the 270-kilometer Srinagar-Jammu National Highway was reopened for traffic on Sunday morning even as 700 stranded vehicles were cleared.

A senior Traffic Police official said thatone-way traffic on the National Highway was resumed Sunday morning. Earlier onSaturday the road was closed due to fresh landslides and shooting stones atseveral places along the highway.

   

The official said the traffic resumed afterthe landslides were cleared at Moumpassi, Digdole and Panthiyal areas along thehighway.

“On Monday the vehicular traffic will beallowed from Srinagar to Jammu. The LMV owners have been asked to cross theQazigund junction before 12 noon, as after that the HMVs would be allowed,” theofficial said.

Meanwhile, Director MeteorologicalDepartment Kashmir, Sonam Lotus said the weather would likely remain dry andclear across Kashmir till March 4.
