Bharatiya Janta Party General Secretary (Organisation), Ashok Koul, on Tuesday said that they were hopeful of restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir.

“On the floor of the House, honourable Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah have promised restoration of statehood to the people,” Koul told reporters on the sidelines of a function held at BJP headquarters here where tri-colour was unfurled by the party leaders led by him.

When asked about any time frame for restoration of statehood, he said he can’t comment as it depends on the situation in Jammu and Kashmir. “But I can say that situation is turning very much normal in Kashmir,” Koul said. “Today RD celebrations across Kashmir were held in a peaceful environment and participated by a large number of people.”

The senior BJP leader said the delimitation commission would submit its report in near future.

Earlier, BJP leaders and activists led by Koul unfurled tri-colour at the party headquarters. While addressing the leaders and workers he said that Kashmir was on the path of development after the abrogation of Article 370. “The removal of (Articles) 370 and 35A has paved the way for Kashmir’s development,” he said. “I congratulate people of Kashmir for posing trust in us.”
