As the number of COVID19 patients continues to grow in J&K, government has pressed for adherence to its SOPs for management of patients suffering from the viral illness. The government has categorised hospitals based on their capacity and strength.
JLNM Hospital and other hospitals that were earlier admitting patients for quarantine as well as observation have been directed to stick to the protocol and role defined by J&K Government.
As per an SOP issued by health and medical education department, hospitals have been divided into three categories. Financial Commissioner H&ME Atal Dulloo has directed all the health institutions in J&K to admit patients only as defined in the SOP document.
On Tuesday, union health ministry also directed the states to divide roles between healthcare institutions for “prevention of duplication of efforts”.
As per the SOP, SKIMS Soura, SMHS, Super Specialty Hospital, Chest Diseases Hospital, GB Pant Hospital in Kashmir division and GMC Hospital Jammu, SMGS Hospital Jammu and SMVD Narayana Katra are the level 3 hospitals meant to admit and manage severely sick COVID19 cases. These hospitals, equipped with ventilators and high flow oxygen have been directed to manage COVID19 patients with Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome, Sepsis and Septic Shock. In addition, these healthcare facilities also have round-the clock ICU teams.
The level 2 hospitals are those that have transport ventilators, oxygen support, anesthetic on call and round the clock physician. These hospitals will rate patients with viral pneumonia. Hospitals that have been clubbed under this category are SKIMS Bemina, GMC Baramulla associated hospital, GMC Anantnag associated hospital, JLNM Hospital Srinagar, Lalla Ded Hospital Srinagar, Bone and Joint Hospital Srinagar in Kashmir division and GMC Doda associated hospital, GMC Kathua associated hospital, GMC Rajouri associated hospital, Government Hospital Gandhi Nagar Jammu, CD Hospital Jammu and ASCOMS Hospital Sidhra.
Level 1 hospitals are district hospitals of Pulwama, Ganderbal, Pulwama, Shopian, Budgam, CHC Sopore, Trauma Hospital Bijbehara, Trauma Hospital Pattan and SDH Kupwara in Kashmir division and Psychiatry Hospital Jammu, CHC RS Pura, CHC Bishnah and private nursing homes.
These hospitals are meant to treat uncomplicated cases of COVID19 and those with mild pneumonia. They will also house asymptomatic COVID19 positive cases. These hospitals are meant to provide round the clock physician and oxygen backup.
