Incarcerated JKLF chief’s health condition deteriorating, says family

Family members of incarcerated JKLF chief Muhammad Yasin Malik on Friday expressed concern over his deteriorating health condition saying the separatist leader has been kept in solitary confinement in Tihar jail and not allowed to meet anybody.

“He (Malik) is being denied medical facility inside thejail. He is rotting there,” said his sister, Amina, addressing a pressconference here, she was accompanied by his mother Aatiqa, and another sister.

Stating that for the past four months the JKLF leader hasbeen kept in solitary confinement, she questioned if all prisoners were allowedto interact with each other, why was Malik denied the right.

“Why is he kept in isolation? How bigger a terrorist is he?”asked Amina.

She said Malik has developed chronic infection in his earand problems in his eyes too. “He has disc problem and can’t even stand,” Aminasaid in an emotional tone as her mother and sister struggled to control tears.

She said owing to denial of medical facility to Malik, hishealth condition was worsening with each passing day. “If Kashmir issue willget resolved by killing him, kill him once for all, if he is the problem,” saidAmina.

She said Malik was only running a political movement andhasn’t amassed any property. “Our property (Malik) is in Tihar jail and he isgetting rotten there. For the past 30 years he has been rotting insidedifferent jails, hospitals and police stations,” she said.

Amina said the only property that Malik owns is 50 kanals ofland which he has inherited from his father in south Kashmir’s Kokernag area.

The family appealed for Malik’s immediate medical treatmentand his release.

“He is kept all alone in a cell. In 24 hours, he is allowedto come out for only 20 minutes…I think all this is being done deliberately tokill him. I fear he will not survive,” said Amina.

She added the Government can’t deny basic human rights toMalik.  “I don’t contest the claim thathe is running a movement. Jail him but provide him medical treatment,” saidAmina.

Replying to a query, she said last time when she went tomeet Malik in Tihar jail, his condition had worsened.
