J&K BJP chief Ravinder Raina tests positive

J&K BJP president Ravinder Raina has tested positive for COVID19, the party has asked its cadres who have come in contact with him to go into self-quarantine and undergo tests.

Raina was feeling unwell for last couple of days.

   

“For five days I was in Bandipora where our party leader Sheikh Waseem Bari was killed,” Raina said. “This morning I had mild fever. My first report tested me positive, though I am asymptomatic. I am going for a second test and will follow all the guidelines of the health ministry and the J&K administration.”

Raina has been hospitalised in Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Narayana Super Specialty Hospital at Kakryal in Reasi district.

On July 12, Raina accompanied BJP national general secretary Ram Madhav, union minister Dr Jitendra Singh and BJP national vice-president Avinash Rai Khanna to the residence of Waseem Bari in Bandipora to express their condolences to the family.

Raina has visited the family twice, held meetings and attended a condolence meeting here at Tagore Hall.

“Directions have been passed to all those contacts to go for immediate self-quarantine,” BJP spokesman Altaf Thakur told the Greater Kashmir. “They have also been directed to undergo COVID19 test.”

Union minister Dr Jitendra Singh has also went into self-quarantine.

“Have gone into self-quarantine with immediate effect from 4 PM today, after receiving the news about corona positive test of J&K BJP president Sh Ravinder Raina who had accompanied us from Srinagar to Bandipora on 12th July,” Dr Jitendra Singh said in a Twitter post.

BJP national general secretary Ram Madhav also tweeted: “Am quarantining myself for a few days since my colleague n BJP J&K President Ravinder Raina tested +ve for Corona today n I was with him 48 hrs ago in Srinagar. I tested -ve for Corona 4 times during travel in last 2 weeks. Yet taking precautions to ensure safety of me n others (Sic).”

A senior BJP leader said party vice-president Avinash Rai Khanna and other workers will be quarantined and tested as per contact tracing protocol.

In Bandipora, the administration has decided to quarantine and get tests done for the Bari family and other people. “All those will be tested,” deputy commissioner Bandipora, Owais Ahmad, told the Greater Kashmir.
