J&K crosses 10,000 corona mark

A rapid progression over the past one month led to J&K crossing 10,000 Covid19 positives on Saturday with 268 new cases.

While J&K had reached 5000 mark of cases on 14 June, in less than a month, the cases doubled and reached 10156 today. In terms of the case doubling time, the 27 days times is far wider than the 14 day time that it took for cases to reach from 2500 to 5000 here. However, in terms of absolute numbers, the 10,000 slab is a grave concern for health authorities struggling with ensuring adequate health infrastructure to manage the epidemic.

   

Cases rose from 2600 on 01 June to 10156 today.

Of the cases confirmed till date, 7975 have been from Kashmir division, while 2181 were detected in Jammu division. Among the total cases, 2281 were those who were sampled upon their return from outside while 7335 had no travel recent history.

In Kashmir, out of 7975 cases, 4427 have recovered while 153 people have lost life. Till date, 201287 samples have been tested in the division.

Among districts in Kashmir, 1611 cases have been confirmed from Srinagar alone. From 01 to 11 July, 673 new cases of COVID19 have been confirmed in Srinagar district. Currently, the district has 1075 active cases, those admitted in hospitals.

On Saturday, out of the 268 cases, 181 were from Kashmir division. These included 131 contacts, 16 self reported cases, 13 random samples from red zones and 6 pregnant women, 5 travelers tested positive in Kashmir division today.

67 cases of the viral infection came to fore in Srinagar today, mostly contacts of known cases. These included 11 samples from a security forces’ battalion. A number of cases were confirmed from Wantpora and Rajouri Kadal areas today.

Baramulla had 37 new cases, mostly contacts from Kanlibagh and Lalpora among others. Four pregnant women and a few service providers were also confirmed as positive.

Kupwara district too had 37 cases. These included two police personnel, three service providers. A number of people who had reported to the hospital with symptoms and those who had been sampled from red zones randomly were also found positive in the district.

In Kulgam, 23 new cases came to fore, including 8 from a security establishment. The small district, with a population of about 4 lakh, has one of the highest number of COVID19 cases per lakh population.

COVID19 cases from other districts reported today were as Anantnag 6, Pulwama 5, Budgam 4, Ganderbal 1 and Bandipora none.

In Jammu division, 87 cases were confirmed on Saturday, including 57 travelers. In the division 29 cases were reported from Rajouri, 21 from Jammu and 20 from Kathua.
