COVID19 deaths crossed 500 in J&K today with 10 more people succumbing after getting infected with novel coronavirus. While the death rate (among the infected) is 1.9 percent in J&K, there is a wide gap in the death rates of the two divisions.
In J&K, 19 out of every 1000 infected people infected with COVID19 lost his/her life. While 26413 cases of COVID19 have been confirmed in J&K till date, the number of deaths attributed to the viral illness stood at 506 on Wednesday evening. The death rate among infected was 1.9 percent. In India, the death rate is slightly over 2 percent.
However, the death rate is lopsided between two divisions in J&K.
As per official figures, 461 people have died in Kashmir division out of the 14430 people confirmed to be infected. The death rate with these figures is 3.2 percent in Kashmir. In a stark contrast, in Jammu division, 37 out of 4093 cases have died, the death rate thus standing at 0.9 percent.
The UT has had 40.48 deaths per million. The all-India average is 32 deaths per million.
Among the people who died in the last 24 hours, was a 25 year old male from Rafiabad Baramulla who passed away late Tuesday evening at SKIMS. The young patient had been admitted with severe respiratory distress earlier in the day and tested positive at the hospital. He was diagnosed with COVID19 pneumonia and succumbed soon after admission, a doctor said.
The patient, a treating doctor said, had been brought to hospital late. “His symptoms had already deteriorated and despite our best efforts, we could not save him,” he said. The doctor stressed that it is important for people to understand that COVID19 is a serious disease and can affect any age group. “Getting medical help on time can save lives,” he said.
An 85 year old from Sopore Baramulla district also died today at GMC Baramulla.
Other people who lost lives due to COVID19 included four from Srinagar district. These were a 62 year old woman from Eidgah, a 65 year old male from Nawab Bazar, a 68 year old male from Rainawari and a 70 year old male from Lal Bazar.
A 71 year old from Langate Kupwara and an elderly man from Kralgund Kupwara died at SMHS Hospital. A 65 year old man from Chadoora Budgam also died at the same hospital while a 60 year old male from Alestang Ganderbal died at SKIMS.
Two people were reported to have died in Jammu division, as per information bulletin issued by J&K Government.
