JKLF ban: MHA issues notification

The union home ministry has issued a formal notification on banning the Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF), led by Muhammad Yasin Malik, under the unlawful activities (prevention), Act 1967.

As per the notification—number 1403 (E) dated March 22, 2019—the central government is “of the opinion that the said organisation is involved in anti-national and subversive activities and is in close touch with militant outfits and is supporting extremism in the state”.

   

“The party propagates anti-national and separatistsentiments and escalates secessionist moments (sic),” the notification reads.”As such”, the notification reads, “the organisation stands banned as per theprovisions of sub-sections (1) and (3) of section 3 of the Unlawful Activities(Prevention) Act, 1967 for a period of five years”.
