Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) has passed a resolution demanding holiday on 23 September, birth anniversary of last Dogra ruler of Jammu and Kashmir Maharaja Hari Singh.
BJP corporator Narotam Sharma from ward no.3 moved the resolution, and it was passed without any opposition from the Congress or independent candidates in the general house meeting on Thursday.
The BJP corporator said that the resolution will be sent to Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satya Pal Malik for his nod.
This is the second resolution passed by the JMC in general house meeting. Three months ago, the JMC had passed another resolution against Rohingya Muslims and Bangladeshis in Jammu, and had urged Governor Malik to deport them.
BJP corporator Narotam Sharma, who moved both the resolutions, told Greater Kashmir that “sentiments of Jammu are associated with Maharaja Hari Singh and the Governor must declare holiday on the birth anniversary of last Dogra ruler.”
Meanwhile, Mayor, JMC, Chander Mohan Gupta said that the resolution has been passed keeping in view the sentiments of Jammu. “We will also meet the Governor and Union Home Minister Amit Shah with a request to declare holiday on the birth anniversary of late Maharaja Hari Singh,” Gupta added.
The Jammu Municipal Corporation has 75 Corporators. The BJP has 43, Independents 18 and Congress 14.
