JMC passes resolution to seek holiday on Maharaja’s birthday

Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) has passed a resolution demanding holiday on 23 September, birth anniversary of last Dogra ruler of Jammu and Kashmir Maharaja Hari Singh.

BJP corporator Narotam Sharma from ward no.3 moved theresolution, and it was passed without any opposition from the Congress orindependent candidates in the general house meeting on Thursday.

   

 The BJP corporatorsaid that the resolution will be sent to Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satya PalMalik for his nod.

This is the second resolution passed by the JMC in generalhouse meeting. Three months ago, the JMC had passed another resolution againstRohingya Muslims and Bangladeshis in Jammu, and had urged Governor Malik todeport them.

BJP corporator Narotam Sharma, who moved both theresolutions, told Greater Kashmir that “sentiments of Jammu are associated withMaharaja Hari Singh and the Governor must declare holiday on the birthanniversary of last Dogra ruler.”

Meanwhile, Mayor, JMC, Chander Mohan Gupta said that theresolution has been passed keeping in view the sentiments of Jammu. “We willalso meet the Governor and Union Home Minister Amit Shah with a request todeclare holiday on the birth anniversary of late Maharaja Hari Singh,” Guptaadded.

The Jammu Municipal Corporation has 75 Corporators. The BJPhas 43, Independents 18 and Congress 14.
