Kashmir residents in Samba, Kathua quarantine centres being brought back

Kashmiri residents are being transported to their respective districts from Kathua and Samba quarantine centres.

Over 5000 people mostly from Kashmir have been quarantinedin Kathua and Samba districts, 3000 in Kathua district’s 60 centres and over2200 in Samba district’s 41 centres.

   

General Manager (Operations), Jammu, Sudesh Gupta,said,”Three 47-seater State Road Transport Corporation (SRTC) buses with peoplefrom Samba quarantine centres were sent to Srinagar yesterday.”

Gupta said that at least 11 buses of the Corporation are atthe disposal of Kathua district administration.

“The administration in Samba has not again demanded busesfrom the Corporation. This may be because the Jammu-Srinagar Highway is notopen,” he said.

Deputy Commissioner Kathua, OP Bhagat, told the GreaterKashmir, “We have planned to send Kashmir based people in different quarantinecentres of Kathua to valley in police protection using SRTC buses fromtomorrow.”

Bhagat said, “We will allow people with private vehicles togo to Kashmir as a part of convoy in protection. The numbers of quarantinedpeople who do not have their own means of transport are more. Therefore, wewill send them gradually in the SRTC buses. The process may take two or threedays.”

INTER-STATE BORDER SEALED:

The Deputy Commissioner Kathua has said that they havesealed the inter-state border of Jammu and Kashmir at Lakhanpur. He said,”Essential supplies are being allowed to enter Lakhanpur. People having serioushealth issues like surgery, serious ailment or human issues (dead bodies) arebeing allowed.”

A quarantine centre has also been established at Radha SwamiAshram in Sujanpur (Pathankot) and it is being run by the Punjab Government.

In this centre, around 500 people have been accommodated.These residents of Jammu and Kashmir wanted to return to their homes but werenot allowed by the administration. “Most of them are labourers who work indifferent States especially Himachal Pradesh,” said an official.
