Khalil Bandh quits PDP

Former lawmaker and senior Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leader Muhammad Khalil Bandh resigned from the party on Wednesday.

Bandh sent his resignation to party presidentMehbooba Mufti,vice president Abdul RehmanVeeri and party general secretary GhulamNabi LoneHanjura. A three time MLA from Pulwama constituency, Bandh, in his resignationletter said that it was not worth continuing in the PDP when its basic andfounding principles were compromised.

   

“The party has upended after Mufti Mohammad Syed’s demise.The old/experienced/elected lot was not only ignored but humiliated to thecore,” Bandh said.

Bandh told Greater Kashmir that he had not yet decided tojoin any political party. He, however, did not rule out possibility of joiningNational Conference.

“National Conference is also an option but I am stillthinking over it,” he said. A PDP leader, who did not wish to be named,said Bandh was considering his position over past few months, adding seniorparty leaders were aware about it.

The PDP has been facing rebellion within its ranks eversince its former ally BJP walked out of alliance on 19 June 2018.

As many as nine law makers have so far left the 20 year oldparty. Many senior party leaders who made their exit from PDP had accusedMehbooba of providing plum positions in the party to her relatives.
