Landslides block highway for 2nd day

Efforts to restore the 270-km Jammu-Srinagar National Highway for vehicular traffic were not successful on Wednesday due to multiple landslides and incessant rains from Ramban to Banihal.

DSP Traffic Ajay Anand said landslides have occurred at various places like Morh Ghori, Maroog, Digdool and Panthyal.

Hundreds of vehicles carrying essential commodities like oil, gas, ration are stranded from Udhampur to Nashri and Banihal to Ramsu on the highway. However, private LMVs enroute to Jammu which were stopped at Chanderkote on Tuesday were allowed after a single-lane road was prepared at Dalwass Tuesday night.

Officers said incessant rains were hampering road restoration work at various places between Nashri and Banihal.
