Lashkar militant arrested at Pattan: Police

Jammu and Kashmir Police on Monday said that it arrested a militant affiliated with Lashkar-e-Toiba near Pattan in Baramulla district. 

Senior Superintendent of Police Abdul Qayoom told reportershere that the militant identified as Muhammad Waqar alias Chota Dujana ofPakistan was apprehended by a police naka party.  “He was travelling in a vehicle driven by alocal driver and during the naka, he was arrested along with the driver,” theSSP said. “Waqar was operating in north Kashmir initially after which heshifted his base to Srinagar. He was active for the past two years. He hadsneaked into this side in 2017.”

   

The SSP Qayoom said that the exact role of Waqar inmilitancy related activities is being ascertained and his questioning is on.”

Another police official wishing anonymity said that Waqarwas a close aide of deputy chief of Lashkar-e-Toiba, Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi.”Waqar was trained by Lakhvi at his house in Rawalpindi for a month before hewas asked to cross over to this side,” he said.
