Let’s all meet PM Modi to discuss Articles 35A, 370: Shah Faesal

President J&K Peoples Movement Shah Faesal today suggested that a delegation of all political parties from J&K should immediately call on Prime Minister Narendra Modi to share with him the concerns regarding abrogation of Articles 35A and 370.

In a statement, the JKPM chief underscored the need to builda political consensus on various constitutional issues confronting the state.”The BJP government in the Centre is a reality and the politicalformations in J&K have to acknowledge this reality and take steps to constructivelyengage with it. If the idea is to correct the perception of genderdiscrimination then central government can be assured that the populargovernment in the state can bring in necessary guidelines to further implementthe existing Court Judgements on this subject instead of wiping out the articleagainst the wishes of the people”, he added.

“There is no ambiguity as to right of Kashmiri women tohold property even after marrying a non – state subject. The Sawhney judgmenthas settled the issue once for all.  Sothere is absolutely  no need for anyintervention from the central government. It needs to be made clear thatArticle 35 A is non -negotiable”.

“Similarly if the issue is Article 370 hamperinginvestments in the State, which basically is not true at all, but even then tofurther ease the perception, necessary provisions can be incorporated into theState Land Grants Act for leasing out land to non-state subject investors forbusiness, industrial and educational purposes. Again this has to be done at the State level and the central governmentshould be requested to stay away and assured that after a due politicalconsensus such anomalies will be corrected without compromising on the specialstatus of the State”, argued Shah Faesal.

He asked all state – based political parties to realise thatthere was an existential threat that could only be countered by uniting andspeaking in one voice.  “In theupcoming Assembly elections political parties will have to come together forthe larger cause of protecting the special status of the State and prevail uponthe GoI to avoid further disturbance in the region. There is an urgent need torevive dialogue process and resume developmental activity in the State tocompensate for the mayhem of past few years. It is possible only if the mandateof the people goes in right hands and there is a consensus on variousissues”, the statement added.
