Life affected in Baramulla

The fresh snowfall that lashed most parts of north Kashmir on Saturday disrupted normal life here badly.

The snowfall started early morning on Saturday and continued till evening. Around two inches of snowfall was recorded in Baramulla town while in other parts of Baramulla district especially in upper reaches, heavy snowfall was witnessed.

Most parts of the Baramulla district were hit by the disruption in the power supply. Reports from several areas suggest that the snow clearing machines did not reach for clearing the snow, with the result the hardships of common people multiplied.

“Snow clearing machines were not pressed into service here, with the result the traffic movement remained affected throughout the day,” said Habibullah Mir, a resident of Behrampora Rafiabad.

He said, “The power supply too remained affected here and till evening supply was not completely restored.”

In the Kandi area of Baramulla district, heavy snowfall was recorded on Saturday. The locals here said that the heavy snowfall disrupted the normal life badly. The accumulation of snow restricted the movement of locals and people urged the authorities to send snow clearing machines so that the traffic movement is restored.

In the Uri area, moderate to heavy snowfall was received on Saturday. The residents from the upper reaches of Uri town said that the entire area remained cut off from the town.
