LoC face-off: Army porter killed in Uri

A 26-year-old Army porter was killed on Wednesday afternoon in a ceasefire violation by Pakistani troops in the Uri sector along the Line of Control (LoC) in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, a police official said.

The porter identified as Altaf Hussain of Gohalan village in Uri was killed by a sniper fire from Pakistan side at LoC village of Lachipora, Bijhama, the official wishing not to be named said.

   

The porter was working with Army’s 11 Mahar regiment. The deceased was

posted at Army’s Tika Rajput post in Lachipora village.

“The porter’s killing could be a targeted one,” the officer said.

The incident took place in a remote village which is around 30 kilometers from main town Uri.

The body had not yet been handed over to the local police as the post-mortem had not been conducted till this report was filed.
