Senior National Conference leader and former MLA Kangan, Mian Altaf Ahmad, Saturday raised the issue of delay in construction of Z-Morh and Zoji La tunnels on the Srinagar-Leh national highway.
Addressing an NC rally here, Mian Altaf said that it wasunfortunate that the work on Z-Morh tunnel has been left half-way andconstruction of Zoji La tunnel was yet to be started despite nod from thecentre.
“First the number of local transporters, labours andemployees working in the Z-Morh tunnel was reduced and then the work wasaltogether halted,” Altaf rued. He said the halt on the work has snatchedthe livelihood of local people.
He said that wages and payments of MNREGA labours and smallcontractors working in rural development department in Kangan area has not beenreleased.
Altaf urged the centre and state government to take measuresto restore the work on Z-Morh tunnel and start work on Zoji La tunnel as earlyas possible so that people can be engaged in these projects to earn theirlivelihood and Sonamarg can be made accessible round the year.
