Militants attack police post Chanapora, cop injured

A policeman was critically injured when militants attacked police post Chanapora in uptown here on Friday evening.

A police official said that a sentry, Feroz Ahmed, sustainedinjuries. He was rushed to the hospital where his condition is stated to becritical. “The fire was retaliated and the area was cordoned. Searches are on,”Jammu and Kashmir Police wrote on its twitter handle.  

   

Talking to Greater Kashmir Senior Superintendent of Police(SSP) Srinagar, Haseeb Mughal, said that the policeman has sustained bulletinjury in his back. “It was a standoff attack and the militants fired from adistance. We have cordoned off the area for scanning,” he added.

Meanwhile, witnesses said that the attack led to massivetraffic jam in the area as security forces launched a massive manhunt to nabthe attackers. “A vast area around Chanapora is being searched but it seemsthat the militants have managed to flee,” a source said.

The attack at Chanapora is second strike by militants inSrinagar this year. On 19 January militants had tossed a grenade at Zero Bridgeleaving three cops, including an Assistant Sub Inspector of traffic policeinjured.
