NEET exams: J&K gets 4 additional centres for 3500 students

The National Testing Agency (NTA) has allotted four additional exam centres to Kashmir for NEET aspirants, in a much-needed relief for students, set to appear in national level competitive exam.

The decision was taken after Greater Kashmir carried seriesof stories about allotment of “lesser number” of the exam centres by the NTA,the exam conducting body for undergraduate NEET exam.

   

“We have allotted additional exam centres to Kashmir for thestudents who were earlier allotted centres in outside states,” said directorgeneral NTA, Vineet Joshi.

As per official figures around 9250 NEET aspirants fromKashmir are appearing in the exam, out of which 5750 students were allottedcentres in Kashmir.

“But now the additional exam centres will accommodate 3500students,” an official said.

The NTA has decided to set one exam centre each at KashmirUniversity, Green Valley school Srinagar, Kashmir Harvard school Srinagar andGandhi College Srinagar.

With the allotment of additional centres to Kashmir, allNEET aspirants from the region have got the exam centres within the Valley.

“Individual students are being informed through SMS of theallotted centres today onwards. Director Colleges J&K is coordinating theallotment of exam centres,” the official said.

Earlier, advisors to J&K Governor, Khurshid Ahmad Ganaiand Kewal Krishan Sharma had taken up the issue with authorities in departmentof higher education in MHRD.

The undergraduate NEET-2019 exam is scheduled to be held onMay 5.
