Northern army commander reviews security in Kashmir

The northern army commander lieutenant general Ranbir Singh arrived in Srinagar on Monday for a two-day visit during which he would review the prevailing security situation in the region, officials said.

A Srinagar-based army spokesman said in a statement that the army commander visited hinterland units and formations in southern Kashmir and was briefed about the current situation and the recent counter-militancy operations there.

   

“The army commander complimented the troops for their successes in eliminating militant leadership from southern Kashmir and also commended them for their dedication to duty,” the statement read.

Later in the day, Singh was briefed by the Chinar corps commander, lieutenant general KJS Dhillon at BadamiBagh cantonment here on the “prevailing operational aspects”.

“The army commander reinforced the need to be fully prepared for the emerging security challenges, lauded the exemplary synergy amongst all security forces and complimented the troops for their relentless efforts and selfless service in bringing peace and tranquility in the Valley,” the statement read.
