Authorities on Sunday placed top mainstream leaders under house arrest and imposed restrictions across Srinagar.
A source said that National Conference vice-president OmarAbdullah, Peoples Democratic Party president Mehbooba Mufti and chairman ofPeoples Conference Sajad Gani Lone were placed under house arrest late in thenight.
Meanwhile, authorities imposed restrictions under section144 CrPC in Srinagar district.
An official statement said, "The restrictions have beenimposed with effect from 1200 hours on 5 August 2019 which shall remain inforce till further orders. As per the order there shall be no movement ofpublic and all educational institutions shall also remain closed. There will bea complete bar on holding any kind of public meetings or rallies during theperiod of operation of this order. Identity cards of essential servicesofficials will be treated as movement passes wherever required."
"However, there is no curfew in place as reported in asection of media," the statement added.
Authorities also snapped mobile internet services across Kashmir late in the night.
Tarigami , Majeed placed under house arrest
Late night reports said that CPI (M) leader M Y Tarigami andCongress leader Usman Majeed were also placed under house arrest.
