Only stranded vehicles to ply on highway today

Despite light rains in the Banihal-Udhampur sector, the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway remained open for Kashmir bound traffic on Monday, traffic officials said.

The most vulnerable landslide and shooting stone-prone area of the highway from Nashri to Banihal remained open, however at some places shooting stones halted traffic for brief periods. Traffic police headquarters issued an advisory for Tuesday. “In view of inclement weather prediction issued by the MeT department for next few days there are chances of blockade of NHW-44. People are advised to avoid journey on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway. However, subject to fair weather and better road condition, only stranded vehicles between Udhampur and Nashree shall be allowed towards Srinagar on Tuesday.”
