PM Modi, Governor, Omar, Mehbooba, others condemn BJP leader’s killing

Prime Minister NarendraModi on Sunday strongly condemned the killing of BJP leader in Anantnag, saying the violence has no place in country.

“Strongly condemn the killing of BJP leader Shri GhulamMohammed Mir. His contribution towards strengthening the party in J&K willalways be remembered. There is no place for such violence in our country.Condolences to his family and well-wishers,” PM Modi tweeted.

   

Militants shot at BJP’s district vice-president Gul MohammedMir in his house in Anantnag district on Saturday night. Mir was rushed to ahospital in a critical condition where he succumbed to injuries.

Governor, Satya Pal Malik has condemned Mir’s killing.

Expressing grief over the tragic loss of life, the governorin a condolence message prayed for peace to the departed soul and strength tothe bereaved family in its hour of grief.

The governor has conveyed that immediately after the openingof Governor’s Secretariat in Srinagar, he will call a high level meeting toreview the safety and security aspects of all political leaders and Sarpanchsin the state, a statement said.

The governor spoke to his advisor K Vijay Kumar, anddirected him to ensure early arrest of those responsible for the killing andspare no one whosoever tries to create fear and panic among the people.

Former Chief Minister of J&K and NC Vice-President OmarAbdullah also condemned the killing.

In a tweet, Omar Abdullah said, “Gul (sic) Mohd Mir,office bearer of the BJP in South Kashmir has been shot and killed in Nowgam,Verinag. I condemn this dastardly act of violence and pray for the soul of thedeparted, Allah Jannatnaseebkarey.”

Former CM and PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti also tweeted insupport of the family of the slain BJP leader. “I strongly condemn thekilling of BJP leader Gul (sic) Muhammad Mir in Verinag, South Kashmir. Mycondolences to the bereaved family and prayers for the departed soul,”Mehbooba Mufti said.

BharatiyaJanata Party (BJP) State General Secretary (org)Ashok Koul along with MLC SurinderAmbardar, MLC Ramesh Arora state spokespersonAltaf Thakur & Kashmir Media InchargeManzoorBhat on Sunday visited thefamily of slain Mir and extended their sympathies to the bereaved family.Leaders while expressing his sympathy to the family assured them full support.

Spending nearly an hour with family, Kaul and senior leadersalong with workers assured his family that “justice will meet soon; his killerscannot hide long.”

The Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC)President G. A. Mir has strongly condemned the killing of the BJP Anantnag VicePresident and described the incident as mindless, cowardice and shameful act.

Mir also expressed solidarity with bereaved family andprayed for eternal peace to departed soul.

Senior CPI(M) leader and former legislator MohammadYousufTarigami Sunday condemned the killing of the BJP leader saying violencehas no place in a civilized society.

“There is no justification to kill anybody and violence hasno place in any civilized society. We condemn this killing in strongest wordsand express deep sympathy with the bereaved family,” Tarigami said here.

The former MLA from Kulgam assembly segment of south Kashmirsaid the security of the slain BJP activist, like hundreds of other politicalactivists, “was withdrawn due to which he became a soft target for theassailants”.

 “Political process inviolence-hit Kashmir is itself a difficult task and the activists cuttingacross political lines are risking their lives and doing their bit tostrengthen peace. However, instead of protecting them, the security cover ofhundreds of political activists was withdrawn by the authorities recently,” hesaid.

The CPI(M) leader said, “the administration should encourageand protect them and not withdraw their security.”
