Policeman shot at, injured

Unidentified gunmen shot at and injured a policeman at Khanyar in old city here on Wednesday evening, police said.    

Talking to Greater Kashmir Senior Superintendent of Police(SSP) Srinagar Haseeb Mughal said that Muhammad Ilyas, policeman in civvies,was coming

   

out of a local masjid, when he was fired upon by theassailants. “He has sustained bullet injury and has been removed to SMHShospital where his condition is stated as critical,” the SSP said.

A police source said that Ilyas was returning home afteroffering Isha prayers at Kaw Mohalla Khanyar when unidentified gunmen openedfire at him. “He sustained a bullet injury in his head,” the source added.

He said that massive hunt has been launched in the area tonab the attackers.

This is the second incident of its kind in less than a weekin Srinagar. On 26 April, militants attacked a policeman Feroz Ahmed at policepost Chanapora in Srinagar injuring him seriously.

Just 48-hours after the Chanapora attack, the Jammu andKashmir Police had claimed that the JeM module responsible for the attack hasbeen busted. “We have arrested two JeM militants and one over ground workerinvolved in the attack,” police had said. (GKNN)
