Intermittent rains lashed Kashmir on Wednesday leading to a dip in temperature.
“Almost all parts of the Valley received moderate rainfall,”a MeT official said. He said weather conditions will improve from Thursday evening.
Qazigund, the gateway to Kashmir, recorded temperature of 10.8 degrees Celsius, with a rainfall of 6.8 mm, while mercury in Kokernag town in south Kashmir settled at a low of 9.2 degrees Celsius, the official added.
The summer capital of Srinagar recorded 3.9 mm of rain till8:30 pm.
Overnight windstorm wreaks havoc in Jammu
Meanwhile, overnight windstorm and thunderstorm wreakedhavoc across Jammu district as power supply in several areas got snapped sinceTuesday night.
At Ambphalla area of the district, part of anunder-construction building collapsed with its debris falling on two vehiclesparked underneath it. The vehicles-Tata Safari and Indigo-were completelydamaged. Reportedly, some cars and auto-rickshaws also suffered damages in otherareas of the district.
A local, Rajesh Kumar said, “Since the storm hit the areaduring late night hours, people remained confined to their places. If thewindstorm had hit the area during day, the losses would have been grave becausethere is a cooperative school in the area.”
“The district administration should take strong note of poorquality material being used in the under-construction building owing to whichit collapsed,” he said.
The District Development Commissioner Jammu, Ramesh Kumar,told Greater Kashmir that power supply to several areas of Jammu has beensnapped and several trees and PDD utilities have suffered damages.
“We’ve deployed our men and machinery to restore the powersupply and replace the damaged utilities and clear the roads off the trees forvehicular movement,” he said.
As warnings have been issued across north India aboutinclement weather in view of gusty winds and thunderstorm coupled withwindstorm, people have been advised to stay indoors during the storms.
