As Kashmir observed a shutdown on Saturday to mark the Martyr’s day, Jammu witnessed several protests by the displaced Kashmiri Pandits and activists of Bajrang Dal, and Yuva Rajput Sabha.
The protesters were demanding abolition of holiday on 13July and scraping of special status of Jammu and Kashmir.
The demonstrators urged Governor Satya Pal Malik to announcea government holiday on birth anniversary of last Dogra Maharaja Hari Singh on23 September.
As the saffron belt openly opposed the holiday on theMartyrs day, Muslims in Jammu plains maintained silence over the issue.
