Security beefed up in northern Kashmir

Security was Wednesday beefed up across the Baramulla parliamentary segment which is going to polls in the first phase of Lok Sabha elections on Thursday, officials said.

A senior police official said that 100 companies of centralparamilitary forces have already arrived in parts of northern Kashmir to”provide a secure atmosphere for the polling”.

   

He said that extraordinary security arrangements have beenput in place in Baramulla, Kupwara and Bandipora districts to ensure “smoothand peaceful polls”.

All vehicles entering the Baramulla town were Wednesdaythoroughly frisked by the police at Sopore, Rafiabad, Zaingeer, Sangrama andPattan, groups of witnesses said.
