Shopian fake encounter | Justice delivered to 3 Rajouri families: LG

Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Saturday said that justice was delivered to the families of three youths killed in Shopian fake encounter in July this year.

After conducting a probe into the incident, the army on Friday issued a statement saying “powers vested in soldiers under Armed Forces Special Powers Act ( AFSPA) were  exceeded” in this case.

“In my last media interaction, I had said that justice will be done. I think in this case, people have got to hear the awaited results and will get to hear in future,” Sinha said.

The families of the three youth had written to LG Sinha recently seeking justice. At a press conference last week, LG Sinha had assured that “justice will be delivered to the three families.”

The army which concluded its investigation, in the statement on Friday indicted its own men saying “disciplinary action is being initiated against those found prima facie answerable.”

On July 18, Army said it had killed three unidentified militants in a gunfight in Shopian district. The inquiry was initiated on August 11 after families of the three youth- 26 year old Abrar Ahmad, 21 year old Muhammad Imtiaz and 18 year old Muhammad Ibrar- said this was a fake encounter and the victims were labourers and not militants.
