Shutdown in Ramban, curbs in Bhadarwah

In response to the killing of Zakir Musa, the highway town of Banihal in Jammu province observed a shutdown on Friday. Prayers were offered for the slain militant in mosques. Schools remained closed in the town and some peripheral villages. But banks and government offices were open.

Rail service also remained disrupted between Banihal and the Valley.

Restrictions were imposed on people’s movement, schools were closed and mobile Internet services remain suspended on Friday in Bhadarwah area of Doda district in the wake of Zakir’s killing.

Assembly of more than four people has been prohibited in Bhadarwah and Bhalla, Tehsildar Bhadarwah Zeeshan Tahir said. All schools in both areas remained closed.

Meanwhile, mobile Internet service remained suspended for the ninth consecutive day. The internet shutdown in Bhadarwah was imposed after the killing of a civilian Nayeem Ahmed, which led to violent protests.
