Shutdown in Ramban, curbs in Bhadarwah

In response to the killing of Zakir Musa, the highway town of Banihal in Jammu province observed a shutdown on Friday. Prayers were offered for the slain militant in mosques. Schools remained closed in the town and some peripheral villages. But banks and government offices were open.

Rail service also remained disrupted between Banihal and theValley.

   

Restrictions were imposed on people’s movement, schools wereclosed and mobile Internet services remain suspended on Friday in Bhadarwaharea of Doda district in the wake of Zakir’s killing.

Assembly of more than four people has been prohibited inBhadarwah and Bhalla, Tehsildar Bhadarwah Zeeshan Tahir said. All schools inboth areas remained closed.

Meanwhile, mobile Internet service remained suspended forthe ninth consecutive day. The internet shutdown in Bhadarwah was imposed afterthe killing of a civilian Nayeem Ahmed, which led to violent protests.
