People in this district today complained that the authorities did not clear the snow from the link roads. “We are facing hardships as the snow has accumulated on all link roads of Wangath, Kangan. This has restrained our movement as the authorities did not clear the link/inner roads,” a local of the area said.
The Srinagar-Ladakh and Srinagar-Sonamarg road has already been closed for traffic. It was snowing when this report was filed.
Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner Ganderbal, Shafqat Iqbal on Monday visited various areas in the district to monitor the snow clearance operation and restoration of essential services.
He visited Wakura, Lar, Dab and the main town, besides upper reaches of Kangan sub-division.
On the occasion the DC was informed that the snow had been cleared from all major roads and the “snow clearance operation on link roads was going on in full swing”.
The DC was informed that most of water schemes are functional and the restoration of electricity “will be ensured till evening in affected areas”.
The DC also chaired a meeting at SDM office Kangan to review the winter preparedness in the Sub-Division.
