Soldier injured in LoC firing

An army soldier posted on a forward location along the Line of Control in Kalal area of Nowshera sector in Jammu province sustained injuries in cross-border firing on Tuesday afternoon, officials said.

“He was evacuated to a local army medical centre, where fromhe was shifted to a higher  medicalfacility for specialised treatment,” an official source said.

   

Meanwhile, heavy cross-border shelling took place inNowshera and Mankote areas along the Line of Control in Jammu province onTuesday, officials said.

An official source said firing started in Kalal area ofNowshera in which small arms were initially used but intense mortar shellingstarted later on.

“The shelling continued for over two hours and many shellsfired from across fell in civilian areas, triggering panic,” said a group oflocal residents.

On the other hand, firing also started in Mankote area ofMendhar’s KG on Monday evening.

“Small and medium range weapons and high explosive shellswere used,” an official said.

Several shells here also landed in civilian areas,triggering panic among people.

Meanwhile, Jammu-based army spokesman lieutenant colonelDevinder Anand said “Pakistan initiated unprovoked ceasefire violation byshelling and firing of small arms in Nowshera sector and Krishna Ghati sectorat 11.30am and 6pm onwards”.

“The Indian army is retaliating strongly and effectively,”the spokesman said.
