Srinagar-Jammu highway, Mughal Road, Leh highway closed

The Jammu-Srinagar National Highway remained closed today due to fresh order of the administration for suspension of traffic for repair works every Friday.

All types of heavy vehicles and light motor vehicles were not allowed by police beyond Jakhani Udhampur on the highway.

Earlier, the Friday closures were ordered till November 30, however a modified order was issued by the administration and the ban on movement of traffic every Friday has been extended till 30 December.

The fresh snowfall in the higher reaches including Zojila Pass, Minimarg and Drass areas has led to closure of Srinagar-Leh National Highway. An official said that three inches of snow had accumulated at Minimarg while it continued snowing at Zojila and Drass and as “a precautionary measure the highway has been closed for vehicular traffic.”

Meanwhile, the historic Mughal Road has once again been closed for vehicular traffic after fresh snowfall since Friday morning. Earlier, the road was restored for traffic on Wednesday after closure of nine days with vehicles stranded on the road on Wednesday and Thursday.

Deputy SP Traffic (Rajouri), Muhammad Zubair Mirza, said that fresh snowfall was received at Pir Ki Gali pass since Friday morning and continued when last reports were received. “Road is closed again and its restoration depends upon weather conditions and snow clearance by the concerned engineering department,” Mirza said.
